BEST OF 2013 – HONG KONG, GERMANY & SOUTH AFRICA!

0

Another year just came to an end…..

….a year full of enriching experiences, adventures, wonderful people, thrilling conversations, inspiring stories, laughter, sun, travels, beautiful sceneries, delicious food, great books, quality time and much more. 2013 has been an incredible year for me and hopefully also for you! Below you can see some of my personal highlights of that year:

New Year’s Eve in Hong Kong

Is there any better way to start a new year than with a great adventure?

1

Exchange semester at HKIEd

This was my home and study place for 4 months… Beautifully nestled in between the mountains, away from the hectic city life and providing pool, sport facilities, 7-Eleven, cafeteria, restaurant, BBQ area and common places.. Besides some noisy singing Chinese in the mornings, a great place to stay!

2

Hot Pot

First dinner together with some exchange students – it was about time to learn how to properly eat with chopsticks!

3

First night out in Hong Kong

Only one week together but somehow it felt like we all knew each other for ages already! Soon this became our favourite pre-drinking bar…(un)fortunately always with Jack Daniel’s on offer!

4

BBQ in January

Never had a BBQ in January before! Awesome!

5

Hiking in Sai Kung

It was such a beautiful day… Hong Kong really offers incredible hiking opportunities!

6

Bus Nr. 961

“Let’s take a random bus and see where we end up..” Well, basically we ended up in the middle of nowhere and had to take the same bus back. But to be honest, most of the time I enjoy to get lost and explore places without any plan at all. This is the best way to see some magical places and wonderful things which you might have missed if you would have strictly followed your travel guide. Maybe we didn’t find a beautiful place this time but still this was a great opportunity to have some interesting conversations with this couchsurfer from Portugal… And as we all know, “the journey is the destination”.

A Saturday morning walk

Actually we planned to go hiking that morning but due to bad weather conditions most of our enthusiastic hiking friends decided to stay in bed instead. Well, if you’re already awake at 7am and wearing your sporty outfit, why not just go on a spontaneous morning walk instead? For this decision we were rewarded with some great sights and a delicious local breakfast. Perfect start into the day!

Lunar New Year

My friend Katie invited us to celebrate Lunar New Year with her and her family. It was a wonderful and unique experience to gain better insight into this culture and I was pleasantly surprised how warmly we were welcomed by everyone.

9

At the horse race

Another thing which could be crossed off my bucket list!

10

Lamma Island

Exploring a beautiful island, dancing on the beach, meeting new people, smoking Shisha overlooking the sea – simply another perfect day!

11

Trip to Macau

3 days in Macau with the two greatest “buddies” one can have!

Sunset picnic on the beach

Sundowner after a day on the beach in Stanley!

12

Avenue of Stars

Enjoying the beautiful skyline of Hong Kong!

13

Just one night at the karaoke bar

6 hours of singing, shouting and dancing to a random collection of the Spice Girls, Bob Marley, Guns N’ Roses, David Bowie, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Enrique Iglesias, Eminem and many more! This was one of my best nights with some of the best people I know!

14

Summer in Germany and a wedding

After being away for some years already it was great to finally spend some time again at home with my family and friends. The wedding of my beautiful friend definitely was another highlight that summer which I will always remember! <3

17

A new start in Cape Town

And again it was time for a change…9 months in South Africa!

Hop-on Hop-off Bus (23.08.13) 16

Wine tasting

Delicious wine tasting with a great bunch of people!

Internship at Jenman African Safaris

No worries, we don’t always look that scary… Halloween in the office – just another opportunity to dress up and have fun at work! There is always something going on at Jenman and this is just one of the many reasons why I love working here!

Cultural Heritage Day

On Lion’s Head

Overlooking one of the most beautiful places in the world!

21

Skydiving

Cross it off the bucket list…. Click here to read the whole story!

22

A house somewhere in Cape Town

It’s always about the people, not just the place – I had a fantastic time with my dear roommates!

23

Happy New Year!

Let’s see what 2014 will bring…..

Jacky

I’m Jacky, a 27-year old globetrotter from Germany. However, I usually can be found almost anywhere but in my country of birth. Until not long ago I was on an important mission in Australia to chase the sun, adventures, good chats, unforgettable moments and the beauty of this world.
Moreover, I’m a hippie at heart, recently did my yoga teacher training in India and just love to bury my nose in a good book. I’m mostly exploring countries on a low budget and often can be found with a colourful sign and a big smile in my face on the side of the road, trying to hitchhike from A to B.
